Mobile data center for the Regional Bus and Rail Company of Ticino (FART)

For the first time, Stadler Rail Bussnang AG is relying on onway’s integrated mobile data center to equip eight electric multiple units and 28 car bodies of Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi SA (FART) in various configurations. The flexible infrastructure hosts comfort applications such as passenger information, infotainment, passenger counting and the seat reservation system. onway organizes the entire service from the cloud, which means that support, updates and changes can be carried out easily and without having to go on site. Should additional vehicles be equipped at a later date, they can be easily integrated via the existing infrastructure in the cloud.
High technical requirements
The stable and secure operation of applications in a large fleet of vehicles entails many technical requirements that can only be met by specially designed functions. For example:
- Hosting of various (virtualized) applications on the same infrastructure;
- compliance with security requirements through secure separation of the various applications and traffic flows;
- constant monitoring of all components and systems;
- transferring and evaluating real-time vehicle data to third-party systems via open interfaces, etc.
Operating system for mobile applications
A special feature of the onway solution is the onway operating system CarlOS, which is used on all router and server types and, in addition to controlling the vehicle-land connection, offers the possibility of operating a large number of services on the same infrastructure.
