5G project in the beautiful Harz region
"HVB is grateful that for further digitization of our services – such as e-payment and Wi-Fi for passengers – we have found two experienced and internationally connected partners in ATRON and onway," says Christian Fischer, Managing Director of HVB.
5G project in the beautiful Harz region
The bus company Harzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH (HVB) offers regional and urban transportation services in the Harz area. Each year, they transport more than 6.4 million passengers. For HVB’s 175 vehicles and those of its subcontractors, the transportation company aims to establish stable and high-performance communication for onboard systems and passengers by mid-2025.
After the successful proof of concept (PoC) of passenger Wi-Fi in August 2024, onway is now tasked with equipping all HVB buses with 5G routers.
Convincing solution from onway
onway has proven its expertise as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in various projects and operates successful passenger Wi-Fi systems, including in Germany. HVB was particularly impressed after personally reviewing feedback from existing customers.
The CarlOS router operating system developed by onway offers various advantages. In addition to stable operation, these include the fast start-up time of the routers.
With the onway director, the central management system for the routers, comprehensive administration and control functions can be utilized. Fast and secure software updates, combined with intuitive configuration options, have consistently demonstrated their effectiveness.
The proposed modems additionally offer wideband mobile connectivity and provide both internal and public Wi-Fi. This Wi-Fi is available indoors and outdoors. The VPN gateways, also developed by onway, provide diverse network connectivity for third-party systems, such as ATRON's onboard computer.
