Networked mobility

Multifunctional, integrated communication platforms

Until now, the on-board systems (POS terminals, vehicle control systems, etc.) were independent island solutions. These “islands” required different routers and SIM cards, but also the administration was complex.
The solution is also known as modern ICT architecture. This architecture is also standard in other industry branches. Applications are not held as vertical silos, but integrated horizontally:

The onway communication platform connects the various devices in the vehicle with the control centre systems, where they can be managed centrally and conveniently. The vehicles are connected with several hundred Mbit/s thanks to the LTE Advanced modems in our powerful vehicle routers. Free capacities can be used to provide passengers with stable WLAN access.

Modern ICT architecture…

  • connects all on-board IT systems via a fast and secure internal data line;
  • ensures a secure and stable vehicle-to-ground connection for all communication needs (can also be redundant depending on requirements);
  • can deal intelligently with dead spots in local mobile networks and guarantee a stable and high-performing network connection;
  • can guarantee the strict separation of operationally relevant communication flows and passenger data traffic;
  • forms the basic infrastructure for future new applications to expand customer service or improve passenger safety, and thus provides the basis for further digitising public transport;
  • makes it possible to get to know customers better and to respond even more to their wishes;
  • automates the configuration, management and maintenance of the infrastructure.

Stops, stations, stands,…

Vehicle networking is only one part of modern, integrated communication. Stops, stations, stands, depots and the systems along the lines are also increasingly becoming part of an integrated architectural concept. Only in this way can passengers and employees be provided with digital services along the entire travel chain:
