onway modernizes SBB passenger Wi-Fi in cross-border trains
As part of a pan-European tender, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) was seeking a strong partner for the comprehensive modernization and long-term operation of its passenger Wi-Fi. The aim is to provide travelers on international routes with a stable, reliable, and user-friendly internet experience – even across national borders.
With a convincing concept and the best cost-benefit ratio, onway prevailed against well-known competitors. The contract award highlights our leading expertise in implementing complex communication solutions in the mobility sector.
By the end of 2026, the Wi-Fi infrastructure in a total of 60 cross-border SBB trains will be completely renewed. State-of-the-art technology will be deployed to meet passengers’ growing expectations for connectivity and comfort. By reusing much of the existing infrastructure instead of installing only new components, the project also takes sustainability into account.
With this forward-looking project, SBB and onway are setting new standards for digital travel in Europe.
