along with onway – how long have you been on board?

I started at the beginning of 2013 – at that time still at WLAN-Partner AG – and am therefore an "old hand" in the company.

What tasks does your role include?

My area of responsibility primarily includes customer projects in the corporate sector. These include WLAN surveys for the correct placement of access points in complex environments such as warehouses, large workshops or production facilities. In addition, there is the design of entire networks, such as for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Lucerne. Another area of responsibility is the maintenance and continuous expansion of our internal systems, such as the monitoring of our system landscape with a corresponding monitoring solution.

What do you particularly enjoy about your job?

What I like most about working at onway are the flat hierarchies with a lot of decision-making authority, the direct line to our customers and our uncomplicated team. Over the years, in addition to the professional cooperation with colleagues, friendships have also developed.

Which technologies and topics do you come across in your job?

Looking back at the original company name, I am still intensively involved with WLAN technologies and installations. When I started here, Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n) with a theoretical gross data rate of 600 Mbit/s was still current. Now, thanks to Wi-Fi 6E, wireless working is also possible for very data-intensive and demanding work. This means that companies can increasingly adopt a "WLAN only" approach and dispense with static cabling altogether. The new technologies enable a net data rate in the gigabit range with very low latency.

What professional expertise are you bringing to the table?

After my apprenticeship, I specialised in Unix in various further training courses, first at SUN Microsystems, and later in Cisco's certification programmes to become a network professional. From my previous job, I was trained as a practical trainer for apprentices. Through this experience, I was able to successfully bring our first apprentice through his final apprenticeship exam.

What are your plans for the future, what do you definitely want to achieve with onway?

We are already very strongly represented in the market with our onway routers. But in our product range we also have very good products for NAC solutions and generally a profound knowledge of networks. I would like to realise further exciting projects in these areas.

After my previous position at a very large company, it was clear to me that I would like to spend my professional future in a family environment at an innovative SME. And here I am...
