Junior Systems Engineeralong with onway - how long have you been on board?
I started my internship year in August 2023, which marks the end of my four-year education at the Information Technology Secondary School (IMS) in Zurich.
What tasks does your role include?
As a Junior Systems Engineer, my tasks can vary greatly. However, I spend most of my time working on an automation tool that enables us to maintain our constantly growing infrastructure with little effort. I also often write smaller scripts and work on APIs.
What do you particularly enjoy about your job?
My tasks cover a wide range of activities that provide variety. However, a large part of my work consists of expanding the automation tool, which I particularly enjoy.
Which technologies and topics do you come across in your job?
I mainly work with Ansible, Python and Bash to automate the infrastructure. As our servers run on Ubuntu, I also work a lot with Linux. I sometimes need Groovy for our Jenkins CI pipeline.
What professional expertise are you bringing to the table?
I acquired my basic knowledge of programming at computer science secondary school. I learnt Linux/Windows through my own projects.
What are your plans for the future, what do you definitely want to achieve with onway?
In May, I will face the challenge of completing my Individual Practical Assignment (IPA), which is a prerequisite for graduating as a computer scientist with a Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ). My goal is to get a grade better than 5.5.
