As part of a public tender, Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv) sought a supplier for central data routers, management systems, EcoDrive support and subsequent installation of the complete solution in 130 buses and 185 trams within the local public transport system. Thanks to the intelligent IT architecture, all subsystems installed in buses and trains are networked via a single data router. As a result, the number of SIM cards and antennas previously in use can be reduced.
Furthermore, the data router is designed to share a variety of real-time data that will allow the operator to optimise internal processes and reduce costs. In addition to passenger count data and CCTV recordings, this also includes various vehicle data such as fault messages, diesel consumption, remaining range for e-buses, etc.
To improve environmental friendliness, an eco-profiling app is also being introduced, which analyses and evaluates driving style using a variety of CAN bus data and compares it with the driving style of other drivers on the same route. An app with extensive evaluation options supports drivers to optimise their driving style, thereby reducing the pollutant emissions across the entire fleet.
Furthermore, passengers will be offered a higher quality of transport thanks to a passenger WLAN.
