Free wireless LAN on the Gornergrat Bahn

Passengers travelling on the Gornergrat Bahn (GGB) and the Täsch-Zermatt shuttle train operated by Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGBahn) have had access to continuous free wireless LAN on their journey from Täsch to the Gornergrat since early December.
WLAN coverage begins at the Matterhorn Terminal in Täsch, is available throughout the shuttle trains and stations along the MGBahn and GGB in Zermatt, continues uninterrupted on GGB trains and is also available on the Gornergrat – 3089 meters above sea level. “By offering continuous free WLAN, our guests benefit from real added value throughout their journey from Täsch to the Gornergrat. Foreign guests in particular have the opportunity to save and share their photo and video impressions on the internet and via social media,” says Marco Tacchella, Head of Marketing and Sales for MGBahn and GGB. In addition, travellers can – if they wish – receive insightful tips and information about their trip to Zermatt and the Gornergrat, or they can subscribe to the newsletter to keep up to date with the latest news about the popular excursion mountain, the Matterhorn. Reports on the current traffic situation can also be accessed online. GGB is the first public transport company in Switzerland to offer its customers free WLAN access. To register, guests enter their mobile phone number and then authenticate themselves via SMS code. Guests are then directly connected to the WLAN and can use all digital services. The free WLAN solution was jointly implemented by WLAN-Partner and Sunrise, and has been very well received since its launch at the beginning of December. In the first few weeks alone, over 1000 guests a day used the service.
