Challenges Associated with Public Transport

Public transport vehicles (trams, buses, trains, etc.) increasingly need to offer network connectivity, in order to provide chauffeurs and passengers with real-time information, to handle transactions when selling tickets, to track the current location or status of communication devices, to use video surveillance live and to provide passengers with internet access and up-to-date travel information.

For security and availability reasons, a separate communication device is often installed for each application. Administering, monitoring and controlling the usually large number of communication devices in these vehicles represents a major challenge for IT managers at transport companies.
